All you need is love. Everybody now. All you need is love, love. Love is all you need. Damn you Beatles. You made millions of people believe that love is enough to solve all their problems.
Despite what the Beatles, most romance novels, and a great deal of pop culture has tried to teach us. Love is NOT all you need.
A wife can’t love her husband into not abusing her.
A child can’t love their parent to stop hitting them.
Behavioral issues of a child with attachment disorders or other emotional problems can’t be fixed with love.
Love also won’t fix autism, sensory disorders, or a child’s delayed development.
Marital issues, problems with your siblings, or any other family problems can’t be solved by love alone.
Love doesn’t solve racial tensions.
and love isn’t the answer to the growing tensions between political parties.
Love is All You Need
Love is not a problem solver.
But love is the reason why you want to solve the problem.
Love is recognizing and accepting that there is a problem that you can’t fix alone.
Counseling and therapy is love.
Early intervention for your child is love.
Love is recognizing that you are racist or sexist, and seeking professional help to change.
And sometimes love means walking away from the person you love for the betterment of both you and them.
Because the one love you need more than any other is love for yourself.
