Admittedly, this piece of advice had more teeth before the US president got in bed with the Russians. But I will say it anyway. Democrats aren’t Communists.
These days, it is pretty damn obvious that I am a liberal.
My parents didn’t bring politics into our home, so I didn’t realize I was a Democrat until I was in college.
I grew up in Austin, so despite exposure to conservatives at church, the community as a whole still had at least an equal number of liberals.
Attending a Baptist university filled with conservative, religious, Republicans made it pretty evident that I was the square peg.
Liberal or conservative. Democrat or Republican.
You say” toe-may-toe,” I say “to-mah-toe.”
Whatever. We disagree on politics, but we otherwise go on with our lives.
It wasn’t until I was an adult and moved to a conservative community that I realized I was wrong.
Democrats Aren’t Communists
Shortly after our move, my husband attended a meeting where the speaker was a Congressional Aide.
In his speech, the aide said that Democrats are Communists.
I wish I could say that was the one and only time I’ve heard that Democrats are Communists.
But it isn’t. It is par for the course living in the conservative Bible Belt.
Democrats aren’t Communists any more than Republicans are Fascists.
And we NEED both parties to balance each other out.
Our country would be a mess if everyone was the same political party.
Oh, the Irony
I will admit that being called a Communist doesn’t have the punch it had pre-Trump.
With a Republican president that is so clearly in bed with Russia, the tables have now turned.
So, while Democrats aren’t Communists, it is looking more and more like the Republicans may be.
