I know it is cliche, but kids grow up in the blink of an eye. About two weeks ago my son was in preschool, and now he is heading off to college.
We are all Doctor Who fans here, right?
In case you are unfamiliar, the scariest Doctor Who episodes are about the Weeping Angels. The stone angels jump closer and closer each time a person blinks. Until finally they send their victims into the past.
Anyways. A similar process happens when you raise children.
They start off as little babies.
Then you blink, and suddenly they are in preschool.
Blink again, and they are ten-years-old.
Blink one more time, and they are in high school.
Then BAM! One more blink and they are gone and off to college.
Kids Grow Up in the Blink of an Eye
Back when my son was just a three-year-old, his wise preschool director said to me
Raising preschoolers is tough. But then your kids grow up, leave, and all you have left is your husband.
And here I am, fifteen years later facing the “all you have left is your husband” stage of life.
I have a major bone to pick with the person who came up with the idea that kids are supposed to leave your home when they grow up.
I don’t want my babies to leave.
I want to be able to kiss my son on the forehead and hug him each day when he heads out the door.
But in less than two months he is leaving home for college.
It sucks Y’all. And it is almost as terrifying as the Weeping Angels.
Moms of littles. Life is tough now. But your babies will grow up one day, leave home, and all you will have left is your husband. So please enjoy those kiddos as much as you can while you still have them at home.
