There is no shortage of blog posts out there with picture-perfect pins of picture-perfect laundry rooms, in seemingly picture-perfect homes. This is not one of those posts. Instead, we take a real look at the 14 laundry room essentials you will find in most homes.

14 laundry room essentials found in most homes

  • 1. tub with a missing lid

The tub is holding a single light bulb. I found the lid after I took the picture. It was sitting on the living room coffee table. Of course.

  • 2. lid without a tub

I searched everywhere for the tub that goes with this lid, and I can’t find it. But I’m afraid to get rid of the lid because I know as soon as I do the tub will show up.

  • 3. empty shelf

The shelf for the 20+ rag/dog towels we own is empty. The towels are currently located somewhere in item number 12 waiting to be folded.

  • 4. laundry basket with just one item that needs special attention

Currently, this basket’s sole contents are my daughter’s old crib bumper that was tied on her headboard. We had to take it down when she got lice. But I can’t wash it with anything else because one end is open and the stuffing would come out. It has been in the basket for four months.

  • 5. random laundry basket in the middle of the room.

This laundry baskets that should permanently stay in the laundry room to hold dirty towels. It reappeared today after being gone for the last week.

  • 6. a pile of mystery laundry

I don’t know what this is. The clothes may be clean, or they may be dirty. I don’t know. It just suddenly appeared.

  • 7. dirty towels on the floor

These are the dirty towels that belong in the formally-missing laundry basket (#5). Of course, when the basket reappeared the person didn’t put the towels in the basket.

  • 8. the window shelf of miscellaneous items

Please take note of the one Pinteresty thing in my laundry room. An old Mason Jar to collect loose change. But next to the jar is a pile of pens/pencils, a necklace, and what I think is a part of our dustbuster.

  • 9. a half-empty organization rack

The rack currently holds about half of the items designated to live there. The other half are scattered around the house.

  • 10. washer filled with clean items that have sat there for days

There is no telling how long that load of clean clothes has been sitting in the washer. But I can guess that it has been long enough that the clothes now smell and need to be washed again.

  • 11. dryer filled with lint

Everyone in our house does their laundry (yeah me!). But Mom is the only one that seems to be able to clean the lint screen.

  • 12. a pile of clean items that need to be folded and put away

I’m pretty sure that all the dog towels that belong on shelf #3 are in that pile along with most of our bath towels.

  • 13. items that haven’t found a home

These are tubs that my mom gave us for Christmas and have not found a permanent home. They had to go somewhere, so there they are.

  • 14. the second pile of clean items that need to be folded and put away

One pile of clean items that need to be folded and put away isn’t enough. There is a second pile filled with bedding as well as old items that I can’t quite get rid of yet.

What are your laundry room essentials?
