You know that mom who has it all together? You know the one. Her house isn’t just clean. It looks like a Pottery Barn ad. Well, guess what. She’s cheating.
When my son was a toddler, I joined a Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group at a local church.
It was my first foray back into the world of adults after quarantining myself in the house with my premature baby. (There was no way that child was going to get sick and end up back in the hospital.)
We met every other week and had the chance to socialize kid-free.
In my 2nd year of MOPS, we split into playgroups based on our kid’s age. On the Fridays we didn’t we have MOPS, we would meet at someone’s house for the kids to play.
It was a great way to get to know the Moms better.
In fact, many of those moms are still my friends on Facebook. I watched several of those little toddlers from our playgroup walk across the stage and get their high school diploma this year.
But I quickly discovered that many of the moms were far superior housekeepers than me.
I’m not talking about cleanliness., because even I clean my house before company comes over.
I’m talking about homes with immaculate lawns and gardens and living rooms that Pottery Barn could photograph for their catalog.
I will admit I was jealous. Not because I preferred the other homes to my colorful, eclectic house. I was jealous because I wanted to be the mom who has it all together.
The Mom Who Has it All Together is Cheating
My bubble suddenly burst one day.
I found out that many of the moms had housekeepers and lawn service.
The mom who has it all together was cheating.
“Cheating” may seem like a harsh word, but that is precisely what I thought when I found out.
And boy was I mad.
No wonder they had the time to put on makeup, get their hair colored professionally, and get manicures.
They were paying someone to share their workload!
To the many moms who are just beginning their motherhood journey. Remember this story the next time you compare yourself to that other mom who seems to be doing it better than you.
They are probably cheating.
