Believe it or not, we use algebra every day. Have you ever made a grocery list and then figured out if it fits into your budget? That’s algebra.
I know high school algebra is tough. And I know it left a sour taste in the mouth of many people.
But like it or not, you did learn something, and we use algebra every day.
Algebra in Everyday Life
Still, don’t believe me? Here are some examples of how you are using algebra.
- Making a grocery list and figuring out if you have enough money for the purchase.
- You have $20 and need to figure out how much gas you can put in the tank.
- You are hosting a birthday party for your kid. The movie tickets cost $15 each and snacks are $10 each. How many kids can you invite and stay in our $150 budget.
- Building a new fence for your yard? You use algebra to figure out the number of fence pickets. And you might even use some geometry too.
We Use Algebra Every Day
You might not realize it, but you are using algebra all the time. And geometry, trig, calculus and all sorts of advanced math.
Your brain is the most powerful processor out there, and it is always calculating distances, trajectory, and other things without your conscious thought.
So, like it or not, you know how to do algebra.
