Towanda baby! Women over 40 are older, have more insurance, and have lost their filter. It feels fantastic to no longer give a damn.
Whenever a friend turns forty, I send them this clip from the movie Fried Green Tomatoes.
It sums up what it is like to be a woman in her forties.
I think the part of your brain that makes you behave in public and be polite starts to break down once you turn forty.
All I know is that most women over forty no longer give a damn.
We don’t care if we have on makeup or a nice hairdo when we go out in public.
Hell. There are days when we barely care if we are bathed and dressed in real clothes before hit the grocery store.
We are over trying to keep up with the Joneses.
Women Over 40
For most women, being in your forties starts a new stage of life.
We are done with the years where we courted and competed with each other for a mate.
Most have finished our birthing years and often are past the years of diapers. We either lost or won the war to get back our bodies after childbirth.
Along with our husbands, we are established in our careers and for the first time, we have a sense of financial security we didn’t have in our twenties or even early thirties.
We have lived in our skins long enough to understand our strengths and our limitations.
And we no longer give a damn what other people think of us. We would totally do the same thing Kathy Bates did in Fried Green Tomatoes.
It is a wonderful freeing thing to have the weight of what other people think off your shoulders.
So to my fellow women over 40.
